GNOME lies to me

Every time I log in, it promises not to show the message again, but then does.

I suppose I should clean some keys in gconf-editor, but which?

Also, tinkering with the registry is so Windows.

Snapshot your .gconf. Log in, and snapshot it again --- is there a diff?

If not, do you have some stale schema files somewhere, which may cause the panel to want to load stale applets?

Indeed I'm almost certain that this was caused by the demise of Battery Status applet from Fedora (Gnome Power Manager replaced it).

I wonder if it is safe to remove
.gconf/apps/panel/applets/applet_0/
Don't want to play ESR-kills-libcomerr here.
