So, I have a Live Journal account now.

When setting this up, it crossed my mind that a blog is a tremendous liability. Some things I wrote at Advogato were truly hair-raising in retrospect. Writing anything about unraveling of the American Loony Left may turn out a severe career-limiting move if your company headquarters are located in Boston, for instance.

So, why bother with this all. My answer is that sometimes I write something which is very useful in retrospect, such as my "Avoid Exotic Locking" entry at Advogato (http://www.advogato.org/person/Zaitcev/diary.html?start=153).

The way to cope with the problem of liability is in the strict content limitation and self-censorship. For example, my Japanese friend Koyomi had a blog before LJ existed (http://www.enpitu.ne.jp/usr5/54596/diary.html). As far as I can tell, she only writes about such things as her apartment turning into a sauna in the summer (although my Japanese is too rudimentary to be sure).

Now that I have this thing, I might as well use it. Currently I'm thinking about a subtle way to make Steven Den Beste (
http://www.denbeste.nu/) to watch Azumanga by creating an unrelated buzz. Any overt requests by e-mail will only end making him annoyed. But he tends to hop the popularity hills (What kind of guy watches both Video Girl AI and Chobbits?), obviously following hints of friends. Maybe even online friends. This is really a tough problem though.
