[15 Oct 2004|10:50pm]
I have forward-ported a patch for fs/partitions/ibm.c, from 2.4 to 2.6, which allows to have root filesystem on a RAID (md). So, I felt productive and useful for about 10 minutes this week. A good thing, too, as I expected it be wasted as usual.

Linus and AKPM start to concern me a little. The problem this time is that an essential update of ub sits in -mm tree since who knows when and shows no intention of moving to Linus. As an explanation, AKPM told me that he "apparently lost a patch". Wasn't BK supposed to fix this problem once and for all? The upshot is that 2.6.9 is coming out with a broken ub. But no, it's worse; it's not just broken, it oopses. And it's a driver which I publicly declared "never, ever crashing". The right thing would be to pull down the latest inconsistent patch which sneaked into Linus' tree and have 2.6.9 with a downrev ub which does not crash, but I have no idea how to go about it. I'm not supposed to interact with Linus directly, right?

The ub problem is actually a small banana, in the grand scheme of things. Of course it's annoying that a never crashing driver crashes; but I guess my reputation cannot sink any lower anyhow. But a few days ago my manager asked me to look at hot docking for laptops. Now that turned out to be fun when I found that the docking station on my Dell D600 contains a PCI extender. You thought that PCI Hotplug is a high-end server toy? Think again.

On non-computer side, I allowed my water intake to lapse and immediately paid with usual horrible headaches after yesterday's class. And the class wasn't too strenuous, either. I didn't puke this time though, by the way of eating Tylenol and Advil by a fistful. Better life through chemistry!

Also, I scored 96 in my Japanese midterm. What an amazing luck.
