Yay, gstreamer update in FC3 (0.8.7-4.FC3.0)! Unfortunately, totem still refuses to play any DVDs, with the following error dialog:

Totem cannot play this type of media (tmw_aspect_ratio_square_menu_item) because you do not have the appropriate plugins to handle it.
Please install the necessary plugins and restart Totem to be able to play this media.

I guess all DVDs I own have square menus. Do they sell DVDs with round or triangular menus? I might settle for rectangles...

The one thing which annoys and irritates me about Gstreamer is how impossible it is to make any sense of what is going on. When I asked them, Gstreamer developers were generally sympathetic but unable to diagnose the problem. They suggested to rebuild gstreamer universe from the source and then perhaps it will fix itself.

It should be noted that Gstreamer does a number of things right. For instance, the above message could be copied and pasted from the dialog, while in most other GUIs it would take a screen capture to collect the data. This is nice, although wasn't enough in this case.

And I do not want to come down hard on them from the debuggability standpoint, especially since I work with USB. I know too many users who see kernel saying something like: "Control timeout on ep0n". Yay, that's a lot of help, buddy. Clearly, there's a lot I can improve here and in fact I have a little plan right now. I'll write about it later.
