[25 Dec 2004|02:56pm]
For this Christmas, I received a Para Para Max CD by Yoko ISHIDA, but not quite. The original Para Para Max was pressed by Panasonic (now Geneon) as PICA-1215. This one is done by a company in Taiwan called "Ever Anime" and is numbered A8-1315. The Ever Anime appears to be somewhat real, at least Google suggests that they attend industry conventions. However, there's no way to tell if they actually bought rights from Geneon for the Para Para Max. Their website at www.anime.com.tw times out. Finding PICA-1215 is nearly impossible these days, so I am telling myself that perhaps Geneon off-loaded this old title onto a second tier record company and this is not just a Chineese bootleg. There's no way to tell, really. What am I expecting, a huge colorful sticker with a hologram which says "NOT A BOOTLEG" in 36pt letters? Hong Kong will produce those if fans ask, no problemo.

I suppose, under the circumstances of pervasive piracy and globalization, the right way to support my favourite singer is to buy a current issue CD by Geneon, which would be Hyper Yokomix (only $26, too, which is cheap for CDjapan.co.jp).
